MY BIRTH STORY by Melanie Ramdeen

My Birth Story

It all started 22 years ago. My mother was 41 years of age and didn’t know she was pregnant with me. She fell down 21 steps and my father who was leaving for work didn’t know she fell in the drain and pulled off and the wheels of the vehicle rolled over her stomach. She said she never felt any pain or discomfort. All she felt was something that moved in her stomach and went to the doctor. The doctor ran a pregnancy test and it came back negative and they ruled it as menopause.  She went home believing that menopause was the actual diagnosis of why she felt the movement. As time went by it got worse; she visited the doctor four times and they always did a pregnancy test and it came back negative on all occasions. On the last visit she did on January 28th 1998 she found out she was 8 months and was due February 19th for a C-section. However, I decided to come a day earlier and that was how I was born on February 18th 1998 at 6:36pm.

I was in prayer one night and I was reflecting on the whole event and when I finished praying, I asked my mom if she knew that she was pregnant with me, would she have gotten rid of me? She said “yes”. I looked at her and told her “that’s why God hid me.”

Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
Jeremiah 1:5 KJV

What do you think about this story? What would you do if you mom tells you that? Share your thoughts on the comments below.

  1. How did you feel after your mom told you that and how is your relationship with her?

  2. Honestly I wasn't surprised that was her reply. The timing of my birth for her was a rough one as she wasnt financially stable. My relationship with my mom is really strong,we are like best friends.

  3. Glad to know you and your mom are like best friends, that is how is suppose to be. but how come you were not surprised with her responses?

    1. Having heard about the financial situations she faced back then, it would have been unrealistic for her raise two children. I am not surprised because I can understand her point of view.

  4. Thanks for sharing your story.
